The Historic Redmond Oddfellows Hall |
|
For over a century, Redmond folk have gathered here for camaraderie and special events. Originally constructed in 1903 of stout local lumber, this hall was Redmond’s first community center and, soon thereafter, its first movie house. Renowned pianist Daphne Rosford Foss provided the live sound track for silent films with her nimble fingers. The Eagles held meetings here early in the century and, in 1926, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows acquired the hall for their gatherings. For decades, regular weekend dances here were well attended. During World War II, Navy men were bussed out from Sand Point to dance to the swing music of bands like Les LaBrie’s Orchestra. In the 1970's the hall became the home of Edwardian Antiques. Some of the magnificent antiques imported from Europe by the proprietors, the Andersons, remain on site. Oddfellow’s Grill on Leary is named in tribute to those who frequented this hall, and whose guiding words are Friendship, Love, and Truth. |
